"I was watching the news and one particular event caught my eye. A riot in an Asian country against a minority group led to the destruction of their compound and the killing of all its inhabitants. The rioters claimed the minority group insulted the Prophet Muhammad while the latter denied it. I knew the story did not add up and called a journalist in my network who told me that a real estate mogul wanted to build a business center and the inhabitants of the compound refused to sell. The mogul spread the rumor enticing the locals to take action against them. I asked why not report on the truth, the journalist said that editors turn down any negative stories on influential people.
I called journalists around the world and asked about the obstacles they face when reporting on the news in their own countries. Some told me they exercise self-censorship for fear of reprisal or of losing their jobs. Some explained that they lost their jobs already to citizen journalists who are paid less. Others talked about the financial gain some media outlets receive to report in favor of one party against another. Meanwhile, the truth became the ultimate victim.
This is when CIMA was born. I decided to use this platform to give journalists around the world the chance to be true to their profession and report without any restraints. We are working hard to finalize our news section and it should be available very soon."
